Las Ánimas Expedition
Your Experience
Embark on an unforgettable three-day expedition into the wild heart of the Gulf of California, combining thrilling pelagic diving at Las Animas with an authentic cultural experience on El Pardito, one of the smallest and most traditional fishing islands in the region.
Las Animas is renowned as one of Baja California Sur’s most spectacular offshore dive sites, where deep blue water, strong currents, and underwater pinnacles attract an incredible diversity of marine life. Here, divers can witness breathtaking schools of Spinetail devil ray and Munk's devil ray gliding through the water in mesmerizing formations, sometimes numbering in the hundreds or even thousands. Encounters with Scalloped hammerhead shark, Silky shark, Tiger shark, and seasonal appearances of the majestic Whale shark make every dive unpredictable and exhilarating.
The surrounding reefs are alive with schools of tuna, amberjacks, snappers, and groupers, while playful sea lions hunt through bait balls alongside predatory fish. Divers also frequently encounter Green sea turtle and Hawksbill sea turtle resting among the rocky reefs. During winter months, the songs and occasional sightings of migrating Humpback whale add another magical dimension to the experience.
After a full day exploring these remote waters, the adventure continues on El Pardito Island, where you will spend the night surrounded by crystal-clear seas, dramatic desert landscapes, and a vibrant reef inhabited by curious sea lions. Staying on this tiny island offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from the modern world and experience the authentic lifestyle of Baja California Sur’s fishing communities.
Throughout the expedition, you will enjoy delicious homemade meals carefully prepared by local island residents using fresh regional ingredients and traditional recipes. From sunrise coffee overlooking the Sea of Cortez to evenings under spectacular star-filled skies, this expedition blends adventure, marine wildlife, and local culture into a truly unique experience. Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs and make your journey unforgettable.
