Your Experience
SALVATIERRA WRECK
Explore the captivating remains of the Salvatierra Wreck, one of the most iconic and accessible wreck dives in the area. Resting on a sandy bottom at around 18 meters (60 feet), this site is ideal for novice divers looking to experience a piece of history beneath the surface. The Salvatierra, a cargo ferry, sank in 1976 after striking Swanee Rock. Remarkably, all passengers survived, and the vessel now rests as a silent witness to that dramatic event. Over the years, the wreck has transformed into a thriving artificial reef, blending history with marine life in a truly unique way.
Today, much of the structure remains intact, offering an impressive view of the ship’s form. You can still spot details like its propellers and even the cargo trucks it once carried — some with tires still inflated — adding a surreal touch to the dive. Without the need for penetration, this site provides a safe and enjoyable wreck experience, perfect for building confidence underwater. Surrounded by schools of fish and colorful reef life, the Salvatierra is now alive in a completely new way. Combined with the nearby reef of Swanee Reef, this dive offers a rich mix of history, biodiversity, and exploration — an unforgettable introduction to wreck diving in La Paz.
FANG MING WRECK
Dive into history at the legendary Fang Ming Wreck, one of the most unique and accessible wreck dives in the region. Located near Isla Ballena, this fascinating site rests at around 21 meters (70 feet) and offers an unforgettable underwater adventure suitable even for less experienced divers.
Beneath the surface lies the story of two Chinese vessels — Fang Ming and Lapas 03 — deliberately sunk in 1999 after being seized by the Mexican government. Today, these ships have been transformed into a thriving artificial reef, turning a complex past into a vibrant marine sanctuary.
Explore the impressive structure of the wreck, with opportunities for safe and exciting penetration through multiple levels. Swim through corridors and open spaces now covered in marine growth, where fish, invertebrates, and reef life have made the wreck their home. It’s the perfect setting for divers looking to experience the thrill of wreck diving while developing their skills in a controlled and visually striking environment.
The Fang Ming Wreck is more than just a dive — it’s a journey through history, nature, and transformation. A must-visit site where adventure meets conservation, offering a truly memorable experience beneath the waters of La Paz.
